The first road clean-up today was a great success! We had 18 participants (which we think is a new record), and that is especially noteworthy because of the ongoing COVID environment.
We want to thank everyone who participated – having that many people made it go MUCH faster and made it more of a social opportunity than “work.” We especially appreciate the showing of club officers and board members who were able to participate and show their direct support for this important community service.
Participants (and please forgive me if I missed anyone):
President John Perlick, K0UM
Vice President Rick Rogers, K7RCR
Secretary Jeanne Crane, KJ7HCP
Past President, Tom Smith, K7AFA
Board Member Bruce Tewksbury, K3BAT,
Scotty Ward, K3TLC
Charles Noah, WD0EEA
Ed Toal, N9MW
Sharon Toal, W9RNF
Doug Yoes, K7KQJ
Roger Johnson, K5IP
Joseph Laity (substituting for his dad, Dave)
Dave Bowen, WD0FWR
Cathy Tewksbury, KF7DZA
Sharon Smith, KF7YJW
Jon Otto, AD7GS
Randy Walker, K7NOJ
Also, Jon Otto received his belated award approved by the board last June for his outstanding service as webmaster. Rick Rogers previously received his award for outstanding service for all of his work on 7QP and Field Day 2020. Thanks to both members for their outstanding contributions to the club!
We hope to have another clean-up session sometime in late summer.
Thanks again to all who participated!
Quarterly, members of GVARC meet to clean up a one mile stretch of roadway in Sahuarita.
Sharon Smith (KF7YJW) has volunteered to "pick up" the duties for scheduling future GVARC road side cleanups!
We gave up the stretch of roadway we had for many years, and requested a replacement. The new section of road is on the North side of Duval Mine Road, From the Taco Bell /Theater entrance to a quarter mile past La Cañada near the Titan Missile Museum entrance/exit. Look for our familiar road sign.
