Parks on the Air
Members of GVARC have an increasing interest in the POTA or Parks on the Air program.
On this page we will try to keep an informal list of POTA Activations by our members. The button on the Right will download a pdf versions of a Presentation given by Rick Rogers at the February 8th GVARC General Membership Meeting 3/11/2025
Randy Walker K7NOJ has been hosting many POTA sessions as he and his wife, Cindy meander through the US. Recently they were in Manzanar, California, the site of one of ten American concentration camps, where more than 120,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II from March ... Cindy's mother's family was interned in the Poston, AZ camp during WW II. Her dad's family lived in Colorado which didn't experience the relocation. Her dad served in the all-Japanese 442CRT during WW II There were 10 Japanese internment camps that were constructed during WW II. We have visited 4 of them (Poston, AZ; Manzanar, CA; Thule Lake, CA and Minidoka, ID) and I have done a POTA at Manzanar and Minidoka. We plan on visiting the rest of the camps in WY, UT, CO, AZ (2), AR (2). He thought you might enjoy the photos which he could not share directly on our reflector. 3/3/2025
I'll be doing this POTA tomorrow at US-0845. On 20M 1000-1500 PST...I'll start out on CW, then move to SSB and finish with FT8. Activation is posted on the POTA website https://parksontheair.com/ Manzanar was a WW II Japanese internment camp. It is just north of Lone Pine, CA where we are staying for a few days. 73 and hope to see you in the log! --- Randy K7NOJ 3/1/2025
Hello, Everyone I just wanted to send this note out to thank all the members who showed up at today's outing with OVARC. Special thanks to John Lynn for a great job in setting this up. To every member that was there, I think our club made a good showing, and I believe we had a great time visiting with the Oro Valley Club members. I hope we can do things like this more often because I think anytime our club members get together, we have a pretty good time. I might add - the food was great. Which reminds me, thanks to Ed and Sharon Toal for saving the brats. Good job! Good evening to everyone. 73 Gene N8ELA 2/19/2025

OVARC will be cooking brats. The rest of the food will be pot luck. GVARC is invited to attend, so mark your calendars. If you plan to attend we will try to get a count of people at the GVARC general meeting, so there will be enough brats. We can certainly contribute to the pot luck too. “Gene’s Beans” will be there. This is on the same day as the ARRL DX Sideband Contest so the bands should be buzzing. KL7CY will be setting up a CrankIR antenna. OVARC will have their portable station. This can be a Parks on the Air “POTA” activation or just fun making contacts. Additional Information
