We have established a reflector for those Club members who would like help setting up or operating DMR radios and our new DMR repeater.
Please reply to this e-mail or to [email protected] if you would like to be added to the reflector roster.
Digital Mobile Radio offers a lot of new features such as having a one to one talk channel, having literally world wide range and near perfect audio quality to list a few. Much equipment is offered at very reasonable prices. However, understanding the layout and procedures of the system and creating "code plugs" and hotspots can be a daunting effort without some help.
Pooling our resources on our new DMR reflector should be a big help.
We'll be happy to have you join.

We had 6 checkins to the net tonight as follows:
We found out that the DroidStar app was updated and requires a vocoder app to be installed. So some folks may have tried to checkin and found out the DroidStar app was not cooperating.
I finally got my version to work a few minutes ago.

The link to pizzanbeer.net was removed due to some issues for some of our users. - Jon
I got a McAfee warning when I went to this link but the phone seems to still be working (so far, hi hi).
Watch the video which shows you where to plug the web address to launch the vocoder.
Good Luck All 😁

Best turn out so far with 7 checkins. Thanks to all for joining tonight.
The next DMR net will be on Monday, November 1st at 7 pm. Possibly the Elephant Head DMR repeater will be back on the air with improved audio performance.
If you want to join in but don't have a DMR radio/hotspot, there is an Android phone app called DroidStar that works very well. If you need assistance in getting this to work, drop me an email with your phone number and I will try to assist. I don't think there is an Apple app equivalent.

We still have some audio distortion on the downlink from the Elephant Head repeater that will need to be corrected. I had to switch to my hotspot to better hear the net traffic.
Please be advised that the net will meet on the first and third Mondays each month at 7 pm. I can continue as net control until someone else wishes to volunteer.
If anyone needs assistance programming either their radio or the DroidStar app, please let me know.

Now that the DMR repeater is operational it has been suggested the DMR Net be started back up. To that end this coming Monday evening at 7 PM local we will convene the net on BrandMeister TG 310481. Mike Bass, WA9TKK will be the NCS. Those with a DMR radio but no hot spot will now be able to join the net. MAKE SURE when you program the TG that it is programmed for SLOT 2. Ron, AA7RP sent out an email earlier this week about using slot two for talk groups. A reminder, if you do not have a BrandMeister account you must get one to access the repeater.
For those of you who don't yet have a DMR radio, or are having hotspot issues, if you have an Android phone you can get an app called DroidStar and access the net through your phone. You must still have a BM account. My DMR radio is in Indiana right now and I'm able to access DMR TG's through an old Android phone I have. It works pretty good. DroidStar is not available for Apple.
If you need help with programming your radio there are folks in the club who can help you.
Hope to hear you Monday night.

As of late this afternoon we now have a DMR repeater on 449.375. I’ve programmed talk group 3100 (U.S. nationwide bridge) in TS1 as a static talk group. There isn’t anything programmed in TS2, so it can be used for local chat or directed to a talk group of the user’s choice.

Just a reminder about the DMR Net this evening at 7PM. It will be on TG 310481 on the Brandmeister system. Since there is no BM repeater in So AZ the only way to access it right now is by hotspot. If you need help please let Rick Rogers know.

We had a real good DMR net last evening. What we discussed was putting a code plug on the web site for folks to download to their radio to get them started. We would do this for whatever brand of radio folks in the club own. Creating code plugs can be a real challenge if you are new to digital radio. So, if you would please respond to this email with the brand name and model number of your radio so we can compile a list and see about getting code plugs created it would be appreciated. If you happen to have the only brand/model of a particular radio you will probably be asked to create a code plug to put on the web site. There are going to be discussions about what talk groups should be included in these code plugs just so we have something consistent for everyone to start with. We are going to try and hold it to maybe 10 to 15 talk groups to start with and folks can add more as they gain more experience with their radio. If you also have a hotspot we would be interested in knowing that so we can build a list of hot spots for folks to consider purchasing. Also a comment whether you would buy it again or not would be great so we can come up with a list of recommended hot spots and maybe a list of hot spots to avoid.
For those of you folks that have a Yaesu System Fusion (YSF) or D-Star (DS) radio fear not. We want to do the same thing for those radios types too. I know I have been speaking in DMRese because I know nothing about YSF or DS or the terms associated with them but we do want to make sure you folks are included. We are also going to be figuring out how to get the the three flavors of digital radios to talk to each other if it's possible (and we think it is). We are also going to be looking for expertise on YSF and DS to help folks make a decision about which system the might want to get into.
So please respond to this email and we will see what we can get started.
Thanks and 73's,
Rick Rogers, K7RCR

The DMR will be held Monday evening, Feb 8 at 7 PM on BrandMeister TG 310481, Group Call. Please be thinking about what we want to do on these nets. If it's ragchew, cool. If it's tech stuff, cool. If it's a combo, cool. I was just wondering if there is a particular direction we want to go.
