2025
5/7/2025...
The 2025 7QP is in the books. We started setting up at 5:00am and had everything going by 6:00am (or so we thought). After running one of the radio stations for about 45 minutes we discovered we weren’t getting out at all. We spent the next hour or so diagnosing, changing coax, changing antennas (Rick (K7RCR) went home and grabbed another antenna), double checked connections and radio settings. All to no avail.
The conclusion was, it had to be the ICOM 7300 was not working. John Perlick (K0UM) took the radio home, hooked up to his equipment, tested it, turns out the radio is working just fine. Well now what? He brought his dummy load back, we started the process of checking everything from the radio outward. Found it to be a coax problem. Interestingly enough, the coax that worked in the end , didn’t work in the beginning. Hum? Final decision, maybe the area used to be a burial ground and other “things” were not playing well with us. Then they realized we weren’t going to give up and moved aside. That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.
In my opinion, the 2025 GVARC 7QP was a huge success. We had 13 operators (including 2 non-members) and made 118 QSO’s. We operated on phone, CW, and PSK31. We operated mostly 20m, 40m, and a little 15m. The bands were up and down. We had several people (including club members) just come by to visit with us and talk radio. In all, we had 20 people come to the party. (Listed below) The weather was really pretty good, we got a few gusts of wind that tried to blow papers all over, but it usually died down as quick as they came up. The camaraderie was awesome.
Operators/Loggers, Crew and visitors:
The bands dropped off quickly around 4:30pm, we had no one else signed up to operate, and those of us that had been there all or most of the day were getting tired. The decision….. let’s put a bow on the 2025 7QP.
A huge thank you to EVERYBODY that was there and helped with setup, operating, logging, teardown and clean up, and just making this 7QP a great and successful day.

Four club members braved the excellent weather at the Titan antenna to beat the bands for QSOs on Saturday from 1000 to 1600ish.
Thanks to Tom Smith, John Perlick and Mike Bass for picking apart the bands with me. I enjoyed the exercise of operating QRP PORTABLE.
We had a combined total of > 140 QSOs with the majority being CW followed by USB and one (1) digital PSK31. Digital was absent on most bands. I was surprised since each QSO was worth 4 points.
Log is being submitted to the 7QP officials after one last and final visual review of the combined ACLog.
Looking forward to FD if still able (present in AZ)
