Titan Missile Museum 20th Anniversary

Discone Antennae and GVARC site On Monday May 8th, 2006 the Titan Missile Museum celebrated it's 20th anniversary. The GVARC was there to help celebrate, having been invited to set up an HF station and connect to the Museum's 90 foot Discone antenna, just for the fun of it.

Bill AAØTF, Ron VE6RGP, Lloyd N7GV, Randy KM7T As the pictures show we did have a "Fun Day" making contacts on 20 meters, 17 meters and 40 meters all over the USA. A BBQ grill was set up and hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and cold soft drinks where available. Jon AD7GS, our webmaster, takes a break from 20meters The first cook failed badly when he dropped the first two hot dogs through the grill and on to the charcoal. Most of those present would have forgiven his inability until he also dropped the plastic fork through the grill.
Anne & Linda It was suggested that if you wanted to grill your hamburger or hot dog you would have to do so yourself. W7IRL, VE6RG and W7DMT That is when Anne W7IRL took over and saved the day. [The 1st cook shall remain nameless]!

There are several members that I would like to thank:
N7GV Lloyd N7GV for supplying his Icom 706 transceiver, coax and batteries-- in short all the radio equipment.
Ted W7DMT for making a run to the Safeway store to get the supplies needed for the BBQ.
Evan KA7LUE & Olga for their kind donation of "Shwan" hot dogs. Unfortunately they where unable to be there.
Jon AD7GS, Bob AD7FQ, Linda AD7FP, Ron VE6RGP and Bill AAØTF for the help in setting up the Clubs' new sun shade canopies.

I know I have missed some so please accept my THANK YOU to all that helped.

GVARC Banner During the day several club members came by just to have eye ball QSOs and even some to work a contact or two on the big Old Discone antenna. I overheard some trying to figure a way to make it a mobile antenna. "Hey guys it's 90 ft tall"!!

It was good to see every one at the Titan Missile Museum celebration.
