Meeting 8 September 2010

Jack McGowan AD7NK called the meeting to order at 19:00 and greeted the 25 attendees. Omar Spaulding KW7OS, a former resident and club member, introduced himself.

Treasurer’s Report – Bob Call KE7SBQ

The White Elephant Parade will be coming up in October and at our next meeting Bob will pass around a sheet for volunteers. The SAV provides us with a clubroom and classroom facilities and all they ask in return is help with communications for the parade. Not only that, but it is fun!

Technical Committee – Ron Phillips AD7RP and Gene Schouweiler W0KAD.

Ron will be back in a week to correct the problems with the 27-29 linkage and problems with WinSys. Ron will also provide documentation to help in using the new modifications.

Website Committee – Jon Otto AD7GS.

During the past month our website has had 376 hits from 305 different visitors originating from: the U.S., U.K., Canada, Japan, Portugal, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, and France. Jon mentioned that it may be time to update our website some. The background color has been green for a long time. Send Jon suggestions for a different color and also any photos that might be appropriate.

Club Station Committee – Tom Lang K7VOA

In addition to organizing the club station, QSL cards from the special event continue to dribble in. Tom now has QSL cards from all states except Delaware for an All States Award for the club. An All States Net was mentioned as a possible help.

Education Committee – Lloyd Miller N7GV

Continental School Radio Club Meetings will be held on Tuesdays this semester. There will be three groups: Basic Electronics, Radio-Controlled Airplanes, and Robotics. Robotics will start this month as their competition will be in January. The other groups will begin to meet on October 26th. This year radio-controlled-airplane students will begin by learning to fly and by flying the school’s planes rather than by building their own planes. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the students, contact Lloyd.

We are waiting to find out how many scouts want to earn a Signaling Merit Badge. The Jamboree On The Air will be held on October 16th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fort Lowell Park (Glenn and Craycroft) where two or three ramadas have been reserved. We are waiting for further instructions about our participation.

Jack AD7NK spoke briefly about efforts to get amateur television to parts of Green Valley where line of sight to Mt. Lemmon is available.

Gene W0KAD, led a discussion about possibly changing the Wednesday Breakfasts from La Placita to Arizona Family Restaurant. No decision was forthcoming.

The meeting was adjourned at 20:02

Our next meeting will be on October 13th.
