Jack McGowan AD7NK called the meeting to order at 19:00 and greeted the 35 attendees and welcomed five visitors, some to become members. They introduced themselves as: Jack Driscoll N1MVO, Craig Thompson WA3UFY, Jeff Vecbastiks KR0J, Natalie McGee, and Bill Maurer WB4YPA.
Bob said the White Elephant Parade went well and thanked those who participated.
For the new members, Jon mentioned that our website is located at: http://gvarc.us. The website has a new background color blue-gray and new pictures of the parade, the fall picnic, and "Coffee Central."
During the past month our website has had 583 hits from 31 countries including: U.S., U.K., Japan, Germany, Canada, Spain, Greece, Brazil, Netherlands, Indonesia, and others.
Members of the club volunteer for the Continental Middle School Radio Club. It meets on Tuesday afternoon this semester and has 26 students in the Basic Electronics group, 6 in the Radio Controlled Airplane group, and 13 in the Robotics group. They may build two robots for this year’s competition.
Lloyd will be holding exams for various licenses on November 20th in this SAV room. If you wish to take a test, contact Lloyd.
In early January, Lloyd will be giving a class for technical licenses. There will be four, two-hour sessions.
Lloyd has a dual-band handheld Yaesu for sale with charger and manual for $75. If it isn’t sold tonight, it will go on eBay and probably fetch more..
A hardbound copy of the 2011 ARRL Handbook complete with CD is being offered for $49.95 for a limited time. This is the usual price for the softbound edition. Shipping and Handling for a single copy is $10.00 but an order of five or more reduces the unit Shipping and Handling cost to $2.50. Tom briefly described the equipment available in the clubroom.
He also described the effort with (JOTA) Jamboree On The Air on October 16th at Fort Lowell Park. They had a good size group of scouts and made 22 contacts working places like Germany and Long Island. The scouts seemed to enjoy it a lot. Lloyd set up his homebrew, two-element beam and it worked great even after being damaged.
The committee has put together a slate of nominees for next year’s officers and asked for other nominations or volunteers. Tom Lang resigned from the committee as he was persuaded to run for Vice President. The other nominees are: Jane Lang AD7NR for President, Bob Call KE7SBQ for Treasurer, and Don Doehring K7DOD for Secretary. If you are willing to serve as an officer next year, contact Gene or Lloyd.
The December meeting and Annual Banquet is scheduled for Thursday, December 9th and will be held at the Elks Club adjacent to Camino Del Sol near the Valley Presbyterian Church and Shell Station just off Camino Del Sol. The Elks Club is unavailable for our usual Wednesday meeting time.
Sign up sheet was available at the November meeting. If you are unable to sign up at the meeting please contact Rudy Sweisfurth N3EBG, at 625-1331 or rudys1@cox.net. Deadline is December 4th. This year, there will be door prizes including some minor prizes and grand prizes of new dual band handhelds. If members have something appropriate to contributed as a door prize, it would be welcomed. Check with Tom Lang.
