President Jack McGowan called the meeting to order at 1900 and welcomed the 27 attendees. A visitor, Ed Eisenhauer introduced himself and was welcomed by the members.
Don summarized the results of last Sunday’s transmitter and geocache hunt. First to find the geocache was Linda Epstein AD7FP and first to find the transmitter was Joe Pinter KK7DB and Erich Dreager N7LHR. It was a fun time despite the 100 degree + temperatures. Lloyd Miller N7GV organized an activity to introduce cub scouts to Morse Code, phonetic alphabet, and for them to make an electromagnet. Don read an email from the father of one of the cub scouts thanking us for our efforts. The email is posted on our website.
Neither Ron nor Gene were available to make a report. There was a short discussion about difficulties using Echolink.
School is out for the summer, but there are a few students with radio control planes to be helped. Lloyd said that we had six days with the cub scouts with an average of seven sessions each day and ten kids at each session. Also, three parents present on average. So, about 550 participants attended our sessions. Another group and ours were deemed to be the best at the cub-scout camp. Lloyd handed out tee-shirts to his nine volunteers:
During the past month our website has had 444 hits from 345 different people. Contacts came from: U.S., Australia, Canada, Serbia, Spain, Germany, and India. Ray Soifer W2RS has an article on the Technical page that may be of interest to some members. Also, our website has photos from the Titan Missile Museum special event, the Mt. Lemmon cub-scout outing, and the transmitter / geocache hunts.
President Jack led a discussion about planning for Field Day. He asked for a volunteer to oversee the activity. Because none was forthcoming, it was decided that we would not have a formal committee but would circulate a sheet for members to volunteer, as follows.
The meeting was adjourned at 2000.
Our next meeting is on 14 July 2010.
