Meeting August 12, 2009

Ron Gross, AD7FV called the meeting to order at 19:00 and welcomed the 34 attendees.

Two new members, Ted Zazeski N7SX, of Green Valley and Richard Boyles, K7NINN of Sahuarita were introduced.

Treasurer’s Report - Carolyn Miller, AB7KC

General Fund: $1,950.16 Repeater Fund: 729.64 Total: 2,679.80

Our help-yourself-sale last month netted $54.25 for the club treasury.

Technical Committee Report - Ron Phillips, AA7RP and Gene Schouweiler, W0KAD

Ron reminded members that all three repeaters now require a PL-107.2 sub tone. Gene explained that the FT-1000 is so complicated that it is never used. A GAP TitanDX antenna will be installed on the roof and connected to the IC-707 rig, a simpler, easy-to-use transceiver. Eventually, the IC-707 may be connected to the internet such that by using Ham Radio Deluxe, the IC-707 could be used from any PC. The FT-1000 and amp are still available for use.

Continental School - Lloyd Miller, N7GV

The robotics group lead by Ken, KE7VTW, will start October 1st.  The regular radio club and the flying group will start on October 29th.  We welcome Bruce, WA2IWD, as a volunteer to operate the school club station and teach operating techniques.  We could use a volunteer with model aircraft building or flying experience to work with the RC group.  Our regular meeting time for the school club is 3:00 to 4:30 on Thursdays starting Oct. 29

Web Site Committee - Jon Otto, AD7GS

Jon reported that during the past 30 days, there have been 506 hits from 25 countries on the club’s website. The discone antenna page seems to be the most popular.

Dick Palmer, W7KAM reported on the Field Day results which were better than 2008, but not quite as good as 2007 when three radios were used. Details can be found in the July newsletter.

Ron Gross, AD7FV summarized the calendar for the rest of the year.

Steve Baker, AD7WY provided an interesting and informative demonstration of the Buddipole antenna.

Before adjourning, Ron, AD7FY showed about forty slides that Steve, AD7WY had taken during the club’s Field Day activities.

The next meeting will be held on September 9th at 1900 hours in the SAV building behind the library. Hope to see there.
