Attend the October 11 meeting at 7 PM at the Sheriff Auxiliary Building, 601 N. La Canada, behind the library or call Jack at 648-3836 or Lloyd at 648-2834 for more information.
The Green Valley Amateur Radio Club is supporting the Scout Camporee by providing an operating amateur station, both HF and VHP. We will also support the scouts in building a simple circuit board consisting of 2 transistors and 7 components. This will teach component insertion and soldering. The complete board will include a 9 Volt battery, an off/on switch, and 2 flashing LEDs. We will have 300 sets of kit parts. The scouts can keep these boards when complete and working. We will also have 10 sets of "snap circuits". These are circuit boards designed to use special "snap components so the scouts can build simple circuits. These can be used over and over again. The age of the scouts can be as young as 6 and up to 18 years. We will need amateurs to Operate and explain amateur radio. We will also need help to direct scouts in component insertion and soldering.
Set up will start Friday, October 13th around 1 PM. This will include transmitter and antenna setup. Scouts will be arriving after 4 PM and we should be prepared to stay until about 8 PM. On Saturday, we should expect scouts from 8 AM until 4:30 PM. On Sunday, scouts will be there from 8 AM with teardown starting at 11 AM.
The camporee will be at the Double V Scout Ranch, 3801 S. Kinney Road (the road out to the Desert Museum), near Ajo and Kinney.
We are planning 10 soldering and assembly stations, so we should have at least 2 or 3 people to oversee that operation. We should have at least 2 licensed amateurs to act as control operators for the VHP and HF stations. This camporee starts on Friday, October 13, just 2 days after the October 11th club meeting. If you can assist any one of the 3 days, contact Gene at 207-4706, or Lloyd at 648-2834. We will arrange car pools so everyone doesn't need to drive.
