In last month’s newsletter, it was reported by yours truly, that Carolyn Miller, AB7KC, was elected to Treasurer for a second term. That was a big time mistake. This will be her 10th term. What a trooper. Thanks Carolyn for all your service.
I am sorry to inform you of the passing of John Stover, N2SUW. He loved to go to our Ham breakfasts. Services were held on Jan. 7th in Green Valley. He will be missed by all.
The meeting was called to order by our vice-president, Ray, W2RS, at 7:00PM since President Gene, W0KAD, was in California.
Carolyn, AB7KC, gave the Treasurer’s report. We have $1,643.27 in the General Fund and $2,007.93 in the Repeater Fund for a total of $3,651.20 and the new beam has been paid for.
Visitor’s and new members present were Bob, K8NRT, Neal, KE7BTC, Vance, K8YEZ, and Sid, W2ZNW. 36 were in attendance.
Lloyd, N7GV, stated that he has 18 students this year at Continental School. The children are now working on AM/FM radios and Digital Clocks. The Tech class runs 6 weeks starting Jan 15th and is open to the general public as well as the students. A General class will be available after the Tech class ends.
This will be the last newsletter that will be both e-mailed and sent out as a hard copy. If you want a hard copy, please contact Carolyn so that we can generate a list. Thanks.
The new beam will be erected shortly. Anyone who wants to volunteer to help put it up contact Ray, Lloyd, or Gene. The old beam will be sold, contact Lloyd, N7GV, for details.
SAV will run a drill this month and a list of volunteers needed was circulated at the meeting.
Carl, KA5NNR, introduced our speaker, Lou Smith, N7KSB, whom he and Fred Russell, W8JNE, rescued via 2 meters after Lou had a paragliding accident.
Lou has been in electronics all his life and was a graduate of MIT. His talk on paragliding and hang gliding was extremely interesting as well as the videos that he presented. Not only is this a great and fun sport, Lou stated, but also can be very dangerous, as he has lost many friends in accidents. About 25% of glider people are hams. Radio communication is a must especially from glider to glider and during the evening hours and as we have seen, can save your life.
The Drawing was a 1-yr. subscription to World Radio, which was won by Sid, W2ZNW. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

Our Guest Speaker is Larry Brown, W7LB, who is the AMSAT Coordinator for Arizona. His topic will be on Satellite Communications.
Joel Harrison, W5ZN, Elected ARRL's 14th President (Jan 20, 2006) -- ARRL First Vice President Joel Harrison, W5ZN, of Judsonia, Arkansas, will be the League's president for the next two years. He'll succeed Jim Haynie, W5JBP, who chose not to run for a fourth term in the uncompensated, volunteer post. Gathering in Windsor, Connecticut, for its annual meeting, the Board voted 10 to 5 to choose Harrison over ARRL Central Division Director Dick Isely, W9GIG, the only other nominee. Harrison, 47, said he believes Amateur Radio is looking at a different society--and pool of potential licensees--in the 21st century than in the past.
The new club roster was mailed by snailmail. Please contact Carolyn if there are any changes. Thanks
