Geocache & Snack Time

We will meet at 10:am in the parking lot In front of the La Placita restaurant.

This gathering is for those who need help setting the coordiantes in their GPS unit, would like to borrow the loaner GPS unit, have lost the sheet with the coordinates, would just like to ride along or follow along and enjoy the Snack Time at the Whipple observatory visitor's center picnic area.

Participants will be given a soda but they must B Y O S bring your own snack. The last cache listed is a short distance from the Whipple observatory visitor's center picnic area. We should be at the picnic area between 11:30 and noon. THERE IS NO CASH PRIZE. All of these caches are metal or plastic boxes with a log book and small trade items. All easy, short walks from the car. Bring along some small things to trade. Sign the log book and take a treasure.

These are all real caches put out by geocaching hobbyists.

Caches are from north to south east.

  1. Coinage: N 31 55.976 W. 110 59.355
    From Duval Mine Road and La Canada, go north 1.8 mile. Turn right on Antigua. Go to Anamax Park.
  2. Stash 1: N 31 53.251 W. 111 00.235
    Go west on Camino Casa Verde. At the third intersection, turn right ( north) and go two blocks to W. Ward Lane.
  3. Green Valley Travel Bug Exchange N 31 52.188 W 111 00.338
    Go west on Esperanza past Portillo and you can park very near.
  4. Lithomorph: N 31 49.586 W. 111 00.791
    Go to the intersection of Camino del Sol and Camino Encanto. There is plenty of room to park in the open area south of the gas station. Go to the west service road and then south past Calle Tres and then go under I 19 ( exit 56) to the EAST service road. Go 2.9 miles south to Elephant Head Rd. Go east on Elephant Head Rd. 1.5 miles to Whipple Observatory Rd. Follow this road past the Visitor's Center and continue up to Stargazer. There is a paved road except for three blocks of good gravel road. Parking is within three blocks of the cache site.

    Now go back down the mountain to the visitor's picnic area.
