2007 GVARC
Christmas Banquet
Our Annual GVARC Christmas Banquet was held on Thursday, 13 December 2007, with
58 club members in attendance. The evening began with Happy Hour at 17:00,
followed by a dinner of prime rib or salmon at 18:00. Pianist Judy Verwys
ably provided the entertainment, with Christmas music during dinner and a sing
along thereafter.

Our president for the past three years,
Gene Schouweiler, WØKAD,
has retired (hopefully, temporarily). During his tenure, he has provided truly outstanding leadership
for the GVARC. Under his leadership and encouragement, the club has resumed
participation in ARRL's annual Field Day, conducted various special events of
national and even international interest (e.g., the Titan Missile Museum discone
antenna project), replaced the old club station triband beam with a newer
SteppIR multiband antenna, begun a series of training presentations at the
monthly club meetings, participated in community activities, such as CERT and
the White Elephant parade, trained a large number of new "hams," and
accomplished other achievements too numerous to mention!
For his contributions to the club, Gene was awarded a beautiful, specially made plaque denoting his service as our president. However, no plaque, or anything else for that matter, could ever express the gratitude GVARC owes this dedicated man. Gene has inspired many of us to carry on the rich traditions of community service, education, innovation, and personal values for which amateur radio has always stood.
Nevertheless ... just because Gene had decided to step down as our president, he has no intention of taking it easy (as far as GVARC is concerned). He has made it clear that the new leadership can continue to count on him for anything that is needed, as has his lovely and gracious bride, Peg.
We, as the new GVARC board, will look to both of them for continuing help, camaraderie, and inspiration in the year(s) ahead.
Below are some of the pictures that were taken at the Christmas Banquet.
We thank Gene, WØKAD, Dora, KE7KCR, and Frank, KE7GUS for
their help in bringing these photos to you.
